The final 4 of FIM Long track world Championship was postponed because of torrential rain spoiled the meeting in Marmande on Friday 13 July. The organizers, riders and jury members hold their breath on Saturday when the rain started again just before the start of the final. Nevertheless, the public came back and enjoyed a pretty good meeting held on a difficult and physical track.Leading the provisional standings before the final, Theo Pijper made a good start but Josef Franc overtook him in the first corner. Joonas Kylmakorpi took the lead in the second with Martin Smolinski completed the top 3The track conditions changed lap after lap but riders position never changed until the end of the final.The surprise of the day came from Andrew Appleton; third in the provisional standings before the final, he finished in sixth position which propels him eight in the provisional standings.Finally a great result for Glen Philipps who scored 18 points at the end of the weekend.Bad day for Stephan Katt, with only 4 points gained during this meeting, he saw his chance to clinch the world title going away.Joonas Kylmakorpi takes another point and stands now 15 points ahead of Theo Pijper while Josef Franc is third position of the provisional standings.The next final of the 2012 FIM Long Track World Championship will be held in Morizes, France on 8 September.Words - Lydia RobinPhotos - Lydia Robin
