Styke Stands Firm on Top of MX2 Championship

Serco Yamaha Metal Mulisha Racer, Luke Styke remains placed at the top of the leader board of the MX2 class at the MX Nationals after a fourth place finish at round eight of the championship held at Appin Raceway, over the weekend.

Styke proved consistent throughout the day posting three good results and holding his advantage in the championship. His 5-4-2 results netted him 56 points, fourth place on the day and only lost five from his championship lead. With two rounds (six races) remaining, Styke now has a 31 point lead but understands there is a lot of work to be done to secure the 2012 MX2 Championship.

I found the track hard to pass on today and in the first two motos, I was back a little way and just couldn’t go forward. Moto three and I was in the top three early in the race and was able to finish second; a much better start and my speed was better also without so much traffic. It’s a handy lead, but with so many good riders in the field I have to keep my training and preparation up and work towards getting in the top three every race. So, it’s right back to work tomorrow and stay on my regular routine.” – Luke Styke

Kirk Gibbs suffered from lackluster starts in posting 6-8-4 results for seventh overall for the round. Gibbs worked hard trying to pass the riders in front of him but by the time he reached clear track, the leaders were well gone. Gibbs maintains his seventh place in the championship but is confident his riding is on the improve and podium results aren’t far away.

My starts and first laps were terrible today, but it was the best I have felt on the bike in a while. My speed and control felt like it was coming back and my wrist is holding up well. I look forward to the final two rounds and aim to get myself back up on the podium.” – Kirk Gibbs

The final two rounds of the MX Nationals takes place at Moree and Coolum. With 150 points still on offer there is a lot still at stake and the Serco Yamaha Metal Mulisha Team team will continue to work towards a big finish.
